WORK-- LOUNGE --SLEEP -- REPEAT ! - - THE LUNA LOUNGEWEAR BY LOVE NOTIONS - A Pattern Review

Monday morning wear...

Read on, as I share my short review with two easy hacks/tips to make this well-needed pattern for all seasons.

Every Day Outfit

You see I work from home two days a week and it is a joy to dress very relaxed and comfortable, especially in the heatwave that has been taking over the entire planet this summer.

The Luna Loungewear is a fun pattern, packed with a whole lot of comfort in mind. The shelf bra/bralette can be sewn by itself as I have shown here or be used as the shelf bra for the dress and top styles. The bottom piece comes in Capri and shorts length, and of course, there is a dress option.

I made the shelf bra (which I will call bralette) and woven shorts. These two pieces are great scrap busters and quick and easy sewing projects!

The pattern has been upgraded to be more size-inclusive with a new range of sizes: XS to 5X so that everyone can grab and sew up this pattern.

FABRIC CHOICES

The top is made out of knit whilst the shorts can be made out of woven or knit fabric. Suggested woven fabrics are shirting, flannel, voile, poplin, or quilters cotton. If using knit fabric - jersey, interlock, Ponte, and cotton/lycra are great choices.  I had this woven floral print left over from a previous project and it was just enough to make me a pair of shorts. I chose to sew the bralette over all the other top options because, well, the heat again. Rib-knit was the fabric of choice for the binding around the neck and armholes. Be sure to choose a good quality knit for the binding as it needs to have great recovery since it will be stretched more than anywhere else on the bralette.

LINING THE SHELF BRA

My bralette fabric is a  super lightweight knit. This also made it sheer,  but I decided to cut two layers for the front to reduce any unwanted exposure! When sewing I pinned the two front layers wrong sides together and treated them as one piece of fabric. You may baste at the side seams and neckline if you find it difficult to handle.  I left the back as one layer of fabric.

UNDERBUST ELASTIC FOR THE BRALETTE - A DIFFERENT METHOD USED

The pattern suggests using plush elastic, which leaves the elastic exposed but the plush side resting against the skin. Plush elastic is super soft and comfortable,  but I did not have any on hand at the time of sewing this up. So instead I folded the hem of the bralette up by the amount of my elastic width plus a 1/4" more. You may want to add back an extra 1/4-1/2" at the hem of the shelf bra pattern piece to be sure of the same fit.

I sewed all around the bralette leaving a 2" opening to insert my elastic. The elastic was cut the same /length as instructed in the pattern and I inserted it using a safety pin , secured the edges together, and stitched the 2" opening closed.  Now the fabric against my skin is just as comfortable as the plush elastic.

SHORTS -  SKIPPING THE FAUX FLY

The shorts come with a faux fly, but if you want to skip it, just fold the fly pattern piece out of the way and cut out your fabric. This will shave some minutes off of your sewing time and still leave you with a well-fitting shorts!

To remove the faux fly, trim away as shown by the broken line

The Love Notions instructions are well written and easy to follow. But if you decide not to add the faux fly you will sew the shorts a bit differently from the instructions. Here's how (the red broken lines are the new stitching for each step):

A - Pin one short front and one short back right sides together at the side seams and sew. Repeat for the other set.

B - Sew the front and the back right sides together at the crotch seam. Repeat for the other set.

C - With one leg right sides out and the other wrong sides out, insert one leg inside the other, so that they are right sides together, aligning at the crotch and side seam.

D - Sew the two leg pieces along the entire length of the crotch.

E - This should be your end result! So easy right?
